시놉시스

1984년, 컴퓨터가 가정에 보급되고 전 세대에 급속히 퍼졌지만 새로운 기술을 습득한 사람에게만 새로운 미래가 열렸다. 세상은 '디지털 원주민'과 '디지털 이민자'로 나누어졌다.
2016년, 빠르게 변하는 디지털 시대에 적응하기 위해 노인들이 컴퓨터 교육을 받고 있다. 이 노인들이 겪는 어려움은 이제 우리의 문제가 될 것이다. 우리는 이렇게 급속한 기술 발달에 얼마만큼 빨리 적응할 수 있을 것인가?

    Both of us are educated in the area of computer sciences and electronics. With great interest we followed the progress happening in the world of technology, we built our own computers and did our own programming during our free time.
    The knowledge we acquired is a huge advantage and often lets us solve any problems we may encounter when working with the computer. Friends seek us out whenever they are confronted with a problem on one of their devices and we are constantly reminded of how complicated today’s technology has become.
    Now, we have chosen a new path and are pursuing a career as filmmakers. We are still interested in the trends of the digital world, but are not trying to keep up with the newest models and technologies as we did in previous years. It can be quite stressful to keep up with the rapid development concerning digitalisation and so we asked ourselves: How does a person cope with having to learn about computers, tablets and smartphones from scratch?
    How do Digital Immigrants deal with the new technology?
    With our film, we want to take the audience on a journey through time. Beginning with the boom of the home computer in the 80’s and ending on the viewer’s question:
    What has the digitalisation brought us and where will it take us?

하루가 멀다 하고 쏟아져 나오는 디지털 신제품들, 휴대폰으로 무엇이든 할 수 있고, 사물인터넷으로 집안의 모든 것을 손바닥 안에서 조종할 수 있게 되었다. 자동차도 더 이상 사람이 직접 운전하지 않아도 된다. 마치 사람들이 살기 더할 나위 없이 좋아지는 것처럼, 그 어느 때보다 살기가 편해진 것처럼 생각하기 쉬운 요즘, 과연 그럴까? 디지털 문명이 발달할수록 세대차이는 극심해지고 있다. 디지털 문명에 익숙하지 못한 노년층은 어쩔 수 없이 많은 혜택에서 소외되고 고립될 수밖에 없다. 누구는 사용하는데 아무런 어려움이 없지만, 다른 누구에게는 그것이 그렇지 않을 수 있다는 당연한 이치를 혹시 우리는 망각하고 있던 것은 아닐까? 영화에서는 컴퓨터와 핸드폰 사용을 익히려고 애를 쓰는 어르신들의 모습이 보여진다. 바로 전에 알려준 것인데 기억하지 못하고 사용을 어려워한다. 이런 모습들이 단지 나이 문제만은 아닐 것이다. 누구나 어떤 부분에 있어서는 그러한 모습을 보일 수밖에 없기 때문이다. 그렇기 때문에 어르신들의 노력이 가슴에 더 와 닿고, 드디어 컴퓨터 바탕화면을 변경하는 것에 성공하고 짓는 미소에 우리도 안도감이 드는 것은 아닐까?
