Synopsis

Coming of age film about the imaginative Dutch American Annegien(15), whose creative talents draw ample attention in the virtual landscape. Her personal and artistic photographs on her Instagram account Fetching_tigerss reach over 672,000 followers. An online TV channel, has caught wind of Annegien’s talents. How will her success influence her and her pictures?

  For me everywhere children are the same: the most important, the most open, unspoiled and honest people in the world. That's why I like to work with them. My main motivation to make documentaries with and for children is to give children a podium, a place to be heard and seen. In my films I don't want to judge or create the feeling by the audience that children are pathetic, on the contrary , I show the power and flexibility of children, unless or thanks to the situation they live in. I think sharing stories is essential in the world we live in to get to know each other to create the possibility to understand and respect each other. I think a personal documentary is a very suitable way to share stories.

Review

Every morning, ‘Annegien’ checks the number the ‘likes’ she got for her postings on Instagram. ‘Annegien’ who already has about 800,000 followers, creates fantastic photo works based on her own photos with creative decorations and imagination. The number of her followers attracts even social attention because she is only fifteen. She did even received proposals from large companies. But ‘Annegien’ in online and ‘Annegien’ in offline seem different. The ‘Annegien’ who poses on the street for her works to upload for social networks is free and proud. But the ‘Annegein’ in ordinary days is shy, sometimes ignores her parents, and digs into photos rather than her friends. Thinking of Korean kids at her age, ‘Annegein’s works are weirdly overlapping with Korean kids’ but still surprising and lovely. [Kim Sang-hwa]
