1. The Public Presentation of the DMZ Docs Fund

Qualifications for Documentary funds‘The DMZ Docs Funds for Production’ is distributed to Korean or Asian feature-length documentary (9projects), Daemyung Culture Factory Funds (1project), New Directors‘ Documentary Project (5 projects), and DMZ Documentary Project (2 projects), and a total of 300 million Korean won will be provided to the best projects selected from the entries submitted.

EventsThis event is to present 22 documentary projects from Korea and Asia that passed the preliminary examination to the public. The public presentation will take place for two days divided into three parts as Feature-Length Documentary Projects DMZ Documentary Project and New Directors Documentary Project, and the selected works will be announced after the presentation. It gives an opportunity to figure out Asia and Asian documentary of the present day through documentary projects in production or in the planning stage from Korea and Asia.

DMZ Docs EDU
The DMZ International Documentary Film Festival operates the program ‘DMZ Docs EDU’ that combines the education and the documentary, focusing on educational aspects of the documentary. It holds the Education Programs such as ‘Group Viewings Program’ and ‘Docs Essay Contest’ during the Festival, and it has also the Year-round Education Programs such as ‘DMZ Docs Youth Documentary Production Workshop’, ‘Open Lecture Docs’, ‘Visiting Special Lecture Docs’ and so on. ‘DMZ Docs EDU’ provides the fields of educational experiences to learn the human rights and the value of diversity through the documentary.

Year-round Education Programs
DMZ Docs Youth Documentary Production Workshop
In order to vitalize documentary production by the youth, ‘DMZ Docs Youth Documentary Production Workshop’ was initiated in 2011. The participants make a documentary and the films that they would complete will be shown during the Festival.
Open Lecture ‘Docs’
Open Lecture ‘Docs’, that the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival presents newly this year, is a new attempt combining humane studies and documentary, and aims to give opportunity to see everyday themes with new perspectives through the documentary. Open Lecture ‘Docs’ is free and open to anyone with an interest in humane studies or documentary, and is set to be held periodically.
Visiting Special Lecture Docs
‘Visiting Special Lecture Docs’, the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival presents, is an education program that documentary directors, producers and relevant experts visit schools, libraries, youth centers, community organizations, local communities, etc. and deliver a variety of lectures.

EventsThe Special Focus section gives an opportunity to figure out how the issue of Comfort Women would be connected across borders of Asian countries and how women’s experiences would be connected with each other in the violence of the wartime, with the documentary films devoted to the Comfort Women in China, Korea and Taiwan. And in the forum ‘Comfort Women of Japanese imperial army: In Between the documentation and Memories’, as a part of the Special Focus section, the panels will discuss on the relations and the distance between the historical records and the memories regarding the Comfort Women of Japanese imperial army by asking the questions about how the documentation and memories are produced and exploring whether gaps or oppositions opened up between them.
