Synopsis

Soundscapes of DMZ or Time by director SONG Kyu-hag ensued from DMZ DOCS first production support. This documentary meditates the meaning of peace and brings a fresh point of view on the DMZ (Demilitarized zone) where the tension of war coexists with peaceful Mother Nature. The protagonist is definitely the sound or the imagined DMZ landscape through sound. Sound recording engineer KIM Changhoon seeks the DMZ in order to find the perfect sound of nature. KIM sets up tripods and piles dummy head microphones within the DMZ zone in order to obtain peaceful anthropogenic interference-free sound of nature. Director SONG suggests us to listen to the story that each space reveals. He questions how the DMZ zone endure 70 years of division. Knowing that peace and tension coexist in this space, could it carry the pain and transcend the wound through sound?
Soundscapes of DMZ or Time goes through the sounds of Yeonchun cranes, hills overlooking Haemaruchon Chopyeong island, Eulji Observatory, Cheorwon DMZ ecological park, Andong Railroad Bridge, Wetlands Yanguidae, old bridges, Dopiansa Temple all leading us to face the division of the Korean peninsula.
