Synopsis

Between 1981 and 2005, Czech writer Oldřich Sedláček recorded one-sentence each day. The chronicle includes everyday stories about his and his family’s life and the routine events in his small town, but also about a rapidlyevolving nation and world beyond. Director Rudolf Šmíd picked two hundred from more than two thousand daily notes and used about eighty of them for an impressive work of animation that offers a concentrated overview of Mr. Sedláček’s intimate personal story and of the history of our society. The subhead of the film - sociological imagination or animation - refers to two basic sources of the inspiration of the director Rudolf Šmíd who is a sociologist and photographer; biographic sociology and the idea to show the layering of the notices in the writer’s chronicles - the historical events as well as events from his personal life. Using creative techniques of animation, the 18 minute film reflects and re-chronicles the events of the period 1981~2005, during and after the Soviet era.
