Synopsis

A middle-class Mumbai household is turned upside down by the arrival of a new family member—a cute chick who quickly grows into a hell-raising rooster. The cats can't stand their new roommate, the kids are embarrassed by the unconventional pet and everyone is inconvenienced by the fowl's noise and mess. And as his fate hangs in the balance, the family debates the question that lingers in the air.

Review

A family living in an apartment in Mumbai, India keeps a pet rooster. This is how the story goes. A man sees chicks being sold on the street and buys one, thinking it will be a good friend or a toy for his cat. But things take an unexpected turn. Instead of perishing within 2~3 days, the chick grows into a healthy rooster, and disrupts the peace of the entire family. Because of the rooster that constantly wanders around the house, the cat ends up hiding in the corner. The once peaceful daily life of the family turns into a hellish chaos. Nevertheless, the rooster shows affection towards the family members, who in turn warmly take care of it. Centered on interviews with the family members, the film humorously depicts their life with the rooster. Ultimately, it argues that the criteria for determining which animals are appropriate as pets are utterly arbitrary. In other words, we are reminded of the simple truth that men and animals can co-exist as partners. [LEE Dohoon]
