Review

The film is set in a village in Quang Tri that still suffers from traces of the Vietnam War. Out in the fields, there are several holes big and small around which bombs used during the Vietnam War are found to this day. Just as the war caused cracks on the surface of the earth, the villagers have been left with stubborn scars both in body and mind. Some of them work in gold mines or search for bombs or landmines along the paths previously used by tanks in order to make ends meet. They suffer from poverty, sickness, despair or helplessness, which could lead to death. Those gathered at the hospital wearing masks calmly listen to the news about the improving diplomatic relations between the USA and Vietnam. The flow of history seems to move forward but the lives of the villagers are either regressing or at a standstill like rotten water. To relieve the pain, they play musical instruments or sing out loud. Yet, nothing changes. Life leisurely flows towards a dark, vague world. Living in the aftermath of war poses a wholly new battle.
