Synopsis

An old house stands in a mountainous village in Japan. It has been there for more than two hundred years. Yumoto Shigeru lives there alone. He has a visitor today, Lee Ye-Eun, a student at an art university in Seoul. The director of this film introduces the two, whose paths would otherwise never cross each other. Being in this old house, Lee starts to remember her hometown and her family, which then prompts Yumoto to talk about his own past.

    Chigasaki Story (2014)

“Korea and Japan have a complex relationship. And I, too, have complex feelings about Japan.” A Korean student on this film told me this. I wondered how I should respond to her. How will you respond to her? I hope you will find that out by the end of this film, which was born out of a pure chance encounter. I look forward to seeing you at the theatre.
