Synopsis
In 1987, the workers at Hyundai Heavy Industries formed what is considered to be Korea’s first democratic labor union, during the heyday of Korea's democratic movement. Over the ensuing years they struggle to preserve the union against government repression and move the labor movement to higher ground. This film recounts the story of these workers and their union from 1987 to 1991.

Documentary Filmmakers Forum1990년 말, 장산곶매, 서울영상집단, 노동자 뉴스 제작단, 여성영화집단, 바리터 노동자문화예술운동연합 영화분과, ‘11월13일’ 등 5개 단체가 ‘노동자영화대표자회의’라는 연대 기구를 결성했다. 다큐멘터리 작가회의는 이 기구에서 만난 다큐멘터리 제작자들이 결성한 집단이다. 1991년 현대중공업의 노동조합 운동을 다룬 <전열>과 대우조선의 노동조합 <옥포만에 메아리칠 우리들의 노래를 위하여>등 두 편의 다큐멘터리를 제작했다.
