Synopsis
A ten-meter diving tower. People who have never been up there before have to choose whether to jump or climb down. The situation itself highlights a dilemma: to weigh the instinctive fear of taking the step out against the humiliation of having to climb down. Ten Meter Tower is an entertaining study of the human in a vulnerable position.

Review
A fixed camera observes a range of people stepping onto a 10-meter-high diving board. Burly young men are just as frightened as a young girl or an elderly lady. Interestingly, the camera highlights the various responses of people just before they jump or give up, and focuses solely on their free action instead of opting for the subjective perspective of low angles or full shots. Some people freeze wordlessly, some try to start a conversation and some give up and make their way back down. This free action is more exciting and dramatic than action where only two choices exist - jumping or giving up - and aesthetically captures the age of YouTube where reaction videos have emerged as a new genre. At a time when action, free action and even reaction offer something to watch, this film proves that new attempts have the possibility to visualize different responses and emotions undefined by convention and to overturn fixed ideas about age, gender and race.
