Synopsis

Erdenchimeg, 11, has her mind set on becoming a famous acrobat. But suddenly she seems incapable of managing her exercise. The prospect of becoming the ‘odd one out’ on her team is all the more frightening because her dad is imprisoned, her mother is a former drunk and she was only admitted to the circus school as an act of goodwill. Not just her own dreams, but also the dignity of her family is at stake.

Review

An 11-year-old Mongolian girl pursues her dream. She wants to earn a living and buy a mobile phone. The path she has chosen, which is to become a professional contortionist, is desperately tough. The film begins with a vocieover telling us how difficult the training process it and ends with the girl’s hopeful and excited face after giving a performance. At the same time, the film delivers her family’s special story and everyday life. She feels lonely and recognizes that her situation is different from others. Pressured by the responsibility of supporting her family and the routine of unbearably hash training, the question of whether or not she really enjoys it feels like a luxury she cannot afford. The strange acrobatic movements and her pitiful family history are two types of gravitational forces that she must endure in order to survive. This touching documentary shows a young girl who accepts her circumstances and resolutely marches on towards her dream despite her parents’ incompetence and lack of support.
