Review
It is a strange experience to watch a story of 1950s celebrity 'The Kim Sisters', a long-time performer in US military clubs, Las Vegas and television, in year 2018. The year 2018 is when K-pop’s popularity has been proven beyond Korea and Asia, as it topped Billboard charts in the US. Present-day K-Pop is not a sudden discovery but has already existed since then, and it reminds the genealogy in Korean popular music. Year 2018 is also active reexamining of historically erased women in history taking its place. The fact that young women have played music from the early 1950s just after the Korean War, and became popular in the US, birthplace of pop music, sounds more of a fiction which makes the existence of The Kim Sisters more pioneering and amazing. The fact that they have been forgotten so quickly, and the fact they are being restored only through film is also strange. Realization of Korean modern history is dotted with countless disconnections and oblivions follows. The film makes us to question ourselves. Why and what did we want to forget this desperately?
